Poems by Laura Hancock

Have a read of these
My cousin Laura is very talented at song and poetry writing. She's even had some of her poems published in a book called "fp 2002 series onwards and upwards" because they won in a competition which was world wide and another book asked her if they could publish her poetry called "letters of the soul". These are two poems she wrote that made a difference in my life and mean alot to me. "Don't ever change" was actually written for me. During the first years of Comprehensive alot of my friends kept letting me down and in the end I was trying to change who I was to impress them and be excepted. But this was upsetting my family 'coz this fake me wasn't nice. And so my couz wrote me this and I realized that I just gotta be me and my true friends will just except me for who I am. Recently my Nanny Higgins (Marion Mary Higgins) passed away. "Why They Called For You" was a poem Laura wrote and read at Nan's funeral. It made excepting Nan's passing alot easier.

Don't ever change by Laura Hancock
Now is the time to reflect
Look at yourself
There's something you forget
The person you once used to be
When you look
You now no longer see
You have spent so much time trying to change
That the real you
Seems out of range
Stop trying to be something your not
'Cos what ever you used to be
You had the whole lot
As long as you have family you're never at an end
Ask yourself "if I have to change"
Are they my real friend?

Why They Called For You by Laura Hancock
It's the little things I will miss
The feelings of a goodbye kiss
The saftey of your comfy hug
All the ways you'd show your love

It's all the amazing things you did
That makes everyone here love you
The way you helped people who were struggling
Not being too judgemental-just loving
Just lending a hand for no other reason than 'because I can'
That's why they called for you
That's why you're free from pain
Why you're back from whence you came
And just 'cos things won't be the same
Does not mean we won't smile again

It's because of the person you were
That sometimes makes me cry
That makes me ask all sorts of 'why'
But you told me you weren't scared to go
That you knew you would be free
It's because of your understanding
That's why they called for you

I know you haven't left me
I know you still remain
See energy cannot be destroyed-it can only change
So I know you're here right now
Sending your love through
It's because you're an angel that can finally fly
That's why they called for you.
